One Year of Memorizing Bible Verses Did More for Me Than 27 Years of Self-Help Books

Memorizing Bible verses changed my life. I didn’t start out knowing that would happen. That is why I’m shouting it from the rooftop and helping others to discover this for themselves. If I did not realize the power this would have in my life, others probably don’t know either.

This wasn’t the first time I had memorized scripture, but it has been the longest. I started noticing changes along the journey this time. It was about 11 months in that I started realizing the power that was being released in my life.

God’s Word Released a Power in My Life That…

• Freed me from something I had struggled with for over 20 years.
• Freed me from overthinking.
• Freed me from the voices in my head.

This was after 11 months of memorizing Bible verses. I was shook.

This is why it’s important to commit to this journey to see the fruit. The longer you do it, the more you will see fruit. 

I had read so many self-help books for so many years. Yet everything seemed to remain the same. There was no real and lasting change. You can start to think you are irreversibly broken and damaged. You can start to think you are unlovable, an outcast and watch this scenario play over and over again in your life. 

But it’s not true. The voices in your head are lying to you. You are never too far for God to reach you. You are never too lost. You are never to broken or damaged for God, the creator of everything. And HE loves you no matter how many have rejected and broken you. 

I didn’t learn or feel any of these truths with self-help books. Maybe they sometimes said a few good things. But even then, there is no power in those words. Those words are not alive and active like God’s word. It’s still all on you to do it in  your own strength. The truth is you don’t have the strength on your own. That’s why you’re on the endless hamster wheel of looking and hoping in another self-help book. I struggled for years in my own strength, but when God’s power came into my life through His word, there was no struggle, nothing at all compared to what it had been when I was doing things in my own strength. The shackles started falling off because of God being at work within me. Things just started hitting different.

God tells us in scripture that His word is alive and active. It does not come back void. And it is eternal. You can see from this that there is power in His word. They are not just words on paper. This is why you need this in your life and not self-help books.
